Stop the Abuse
August 2010
Where is the outrage? Where is the
outpouring of concerned hearts? Why are so many voices silent on
the issue of child abuse in missions? Abuse in the church and
missions is epidemic; and the cover up has been going on for
decades, even spanning many evangelical denominations. The Church's
nonchalant attitude towards Christian child abuse is unspeakably
maddening. So we are asking you to speak up against this
abuse.
Listed below are four Christian organizations that have recently
been investigated for allegations of child abuse.
It should be noted that the Presbyterian Church was pro-active
in investigating all of their schools, and they found abuse in more than one school. They
now seem to have some very good policies in place as a
result of their investigations.
Out of the four named organizations, only the United
Methodist Church and the Presbyterian Church have made the investigation
reports available on their websites to
the public for download. The Christian & Missionary Alliance and
New Tribes Mission both have withheld the investigation report from
being available to the general public on their websites. Why is this?
